Summer concedes and recedes with dignity
Replacing chromatic intensity , an airless, arid atmosphere
With a fresh seasonal spectrum: amber, bronze, copper.
Pungent wood smoke
Redolent of evenings long past
The peaty pleasures of open hearths.
Cooler climes welcome
The rich sharp tang of ouzo with salty meze,
Soup, sausage, stew.
The comforting quaffs of cinnamon tea, apple cider,
Hot chocoalte, mulled wine,
Rich, full-bodied reds.
All give way to low-tone, subdued hues,
Days shorten, notes flatten into
Mellow minor keys of melancholy melodies.
